I’m Charles Barenbrugge, Broker Owner of Charles Estates Luxury Homes in Palm Springs, CA.
I’ve spent more than 36 years helping buyers and sellers navigate residential and commercial real estate—often at the multi-million-dollar level. I got my start in the late 1980s and built my foundation working Chicago’s Gold Coast through the North Shore before making Palm Springs my home in 2017—a long-time dream realized.
Today, I work across Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley, Mountain Center, and extend into Beverly Hills and Bel Air. If you’re thinking bigger geographically, you’re in the right place.

A Bit More About Me
Real estate is what I do. Connecting with people is who I am.
I grew up in Glencoe, Illinois, and got an early taste for adventure—soloing in gliders as a teenager through Civil Air Patrol. Not long after, I spent six weeks traveling Europe, studying French in Aix-en-Provence and exploring everywhere from St. Tropez to Chamonix to Rome. That sense of curiosity never really left.
I’ve always believed business should have personality. Case in point: I created and starred in a Chicago cable TV karaoke game show—Karie Okie Court—where I performed in drag as “Charles the Karie Okie Queen.” It was bold, a little unexpected, and a lot of fun. That same energy—confidence, creativity, and connection—shows up in how I work with clients today.
Since moving to Palm Springs, I’ve continued to lean into both business and community:

- Auditioned for America’s Got Talent
- Regularly network in Beverly Hills and am a member of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce

Memory at Mel's: Frank Kiesel, my late husband and I, and three friends attended the 55th Annual Emmy's (during intermission we saw Christina Applegate and her cute husband outside smoking and then we saw Martin and Charlie Sheen arguing in the lobby and a myriad of other stars—it was so exciting) and afterwards we decided to go to Mel's Diner in our evening wear.
When we arrived, Ellen DeGeneres, was holding court with a group of friends at one of the booths. Whenever I visit Beverly Hills, I always head to Mel's for lunch - it's my favorite place to get a great bowl of Chicken Soup—It's The Best! Plus the memories of being there with my Frankie!
